My favorite celeb look was Beyonce. Even though her gown choice was a bit risque, she really owned the looked. However, Rihanna's look was eye-catching as well. She really channeled the theme of the event.
What some people may not know, is that the Met Gala is more of a costume event. Hence, the theme. That is why you see many over the top ensembles. I view the looks as art. You may not be very fond of each ensemble, but you can appreciate it.
